How to Choose Your Type of Glass for Your Countertop Project

July 1, 2019 | By |

You’re thinking new countertops are in your future. For years, you’ve tried to look past the ugly Formica ones you have to the better parts of your kitchen, like the nice cabinetry or fresh flooring. Finally, one day, you realize you can’t ignore your outdated countertops any longer. It’s time for a change, but admittedly, you’re not quite sure where to start.

May we recommend ourselves at CGD Glass Countertops? We’re a glass manufacturer and designer based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We specialize in countertops, but we also produce countless other glass items, including glass panels, sinks, decorative doors, partitions, backsplashes, tabletops, bar tops, and kitchen islands.

We offer glass countertops in a variety of styles, including raised countertops and those for the kitchen and bathroom. Our customers choose us not only because of the high quality of our work, but because we allow them to customize the designs of their glass project.

Let’s say you’re interested in our kitchen countertops. We have two types of glass: Ultra Clear and Aqua Clear. How do you choose between the two? Here’s our pointers.

Consider How Much Color You Want in Your Project

If you prefer your countertop to look like a blank slate, at least initially, then we recommend our Ultra Clear glass. This is uncolored, untreated glass that you can do anything with. For instance, you could get it textured or even backpainted. This special service through our CGD Glass Countertops team makes your glass surfaces look like a work of art with the unique array of colors you choose.

If you’d like something subtler, then our Aqua Clear glass fits the bill perfectly. This gently colored glass has the same hue as the sea, light shades of blue throughout. It’s appealing and could make for the ideal choice for your glass countertop.

Think about Whether You Want Texturing or Edgework

Before you pick between our Ultra Clear and Aqua Clear glass, take a second to think of how your countertop would look with texturing or edgework. We have a wealth of textures in which to select from to add a pop of visual appeal to your countertop. With the Aqua Clear glass, you can see all the textural additions very well. The Ultra Clear glass often needs some LED lighting for the textures to fully shine.

Remember the Rest of Your Kitchen

You can’t forget about the overall look of your kitchen as you make your choice. Do you have a room in neutral hues like blacks, whites, or grays? You could get away with the Aqua Clear countertop in most instances. You might just as well want to keep things simple with the Ultra Clear glass, though.

For kitchens that are already like looking at a rainbow, we recommend going with the understated yet timeless Ultra Clear countertops.
